To mark the fifth anniversary of the EASE SAGER guidelines, our Gender Policy Committee members have published an editorial in BMJ Global Health. The article, Fifth anniversary of the Sex And Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) guidelines: taking stock and looking ahead, reflects on the successes and recommendations of the guidelines, and highlights remaining barriers to the uptake and implementation, and makes some suggestions on how to overcome them.
The guidelines provide recommendations to authors, journal editors, peer-reviewers and publishers to encourage and support thorough and appropriate reporting of sex and gender in the scholarly literature – from research design, to data collection, reporting and writing.
The guidelines have been translated into six languages (Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese), have been adopted by a growing number of journals, encouraged by major publishers, extensively used by researchers, and are now listed among the recommended guidelines on the EQUATOR Network.
More information about the guidelines, download links for all language versions, and details of how to endorse and implement the initiative, are available in the dedicated Gender Policy Committee SAGER Guidelines pages of the EASE website.
